Online Safety at Home
Safer Internet Day 2021 was celebrated globally on Tuesday 9th February with the focus on 'An Internet We Trust: exploring reliability in the online world'. This was an opportunity to explore the role we all play in helping to create a better and safer online community. Safer Internet Day calls upon young people, parents, carers, teachers, social workers, policymakers and wider, to join together in helping to create a better and safer internet.
It is incredibly important that children and young people are aware of what is acceptable and what is not acceptable content while on the internet. This has been particularly important this year when so many of our children have been reliant on remote learning and social media platforms to interact with their friends during lockdown.
Safer Internet Day really does have impact on our children and young people.
As a result of their celebration of Safer Internet Day:
- 77% of young people said they felt more confident about what to do if they were worried about something online.
- 78% said they know what to do if they, or someone they know, are targeted online because they are different in some way.
- 19% said they spoke to someone about something that had been worrying them online.
If you would like further information about how to keep your child safe online, please see the CEOP and DfE sites.
